Adding for Reference, I fit these in 2008. but they might be useful for some. I used these R&G crash protectors for the faired GS500F,
You have to drill a hole in the fairing and will need a 28mm holesaw. Doesn’t hurt to go bigger as the hole can be less accurate that way, but you dont want the hole too big.
First remove your side panel
You’ll need to remove the front engine mounting bar which might be a task in itself. Use lots of wd40 and applied heat and it should come loose. It may take literally 2 weeks worth of soaking in WD40 or a better penetrating oil to get it out though. These things are notorious for seizing metal to metal. See Galvanic corrosion or bimetallic corrosion.
I used the mounting/extension piece with a bit of paint dabbed on to mark the inside of the fairing. I drilled a pilot hole from the inside then the hole saw from the outside to keep the edges neat.
Its then just a case of bolting the Crash Bungs on, re attaching the existing fairing bolts and the jobs done.July 30, 2017 at 2:20 am #4146CharlesSaipsLMParticipant
